Wild Forest Estate Solo-Retreat
What is a Wild Forest Solo Retreat?
The forest here has a way of giving you exactly what you need. Unique to you. Which makes it kind of hard to explain what a solo retreat here is and what happens.
But from what we’ve seen and heard from past guests, here’s what might happen:
-
You arrive and unpack. Then what? You don't know what to do but you do know that you should be doing something because, unlike now, there’s always something to do.
You check your phone. You make a cup of tea. You think about going home. You feel guilty for being here, and then guilty for not enjoying it more.
You’ve arrived at a place where no one needs anything from you, including you. And that’s a very unfamiliar place to be.
Somewhere in day two, you fall asleep in the afternoon without meaning to. You wake up as it's getting dark, and nobody needs anything.By day three, you’re doing nothing effortlessly.
-
For the first day, your head is louder than ever. Work, the kids, the thing you forgot to reply to. It’s all there.
Then, with nothing new coming in, it runs out of things to chew on. You're lying in the bath watching the trees move, and a thought arises: an answer, an insight, an idea.
Your brain is always working. When it’s here, there’s nothing demanding its immediate attention. It finally has the space to work on those deeper layers.
-
You're sitting by the fire with nothing to do. A tūi lands on a branch above you and immediately starts talking. The forest keeps growing, the same as it did yesterday.
The forest doesn’t care what day it is, how full your inbox is, approaching deadlines, or what anyone thinks of you.
After a while, you stop caring too.

"The Wild Forest Estate is such a loving and enchanting place that will stay with me forever. I felt very comfortable and was able to relax very well and get energy back in the tranquility of the forest."

-
"This place heals. So blessed to have experienced this piece of paradise."
Janis, March 2024
-
"It felt like my childhood imagination had come to life! I’ll never forget the surreal sense of peace. Lying on the bed at sundown, all the doors open, floating in the trees, listening to the birds’ chorus before bed."
Targa, November 2024
You might arrive with a question. Or maybe come without knowing why, only that it’s time. You’re welcome here.
Some Details
Book your 3 night couples retreat.
$450 low season (June 1 - August 31)
$550 high season (August 31 - December 14; February 1 - May 31)
$650 peak season (from December 15 to January 31)
-
We suggest at least three nights. You've read why: the first day is usually restless, the second you sleep, and by the third you've stopped checking the time. Leave after two nights and you go home just as it starts working.
Some guests stay a week. Some come for three nights and book a second stay before they leave. There's no right length. Tell us what you need and we'll work it out.
-
Wild Forest is nestled in native bush near Trounson Kauri Park on the Kauri Coast, Northland, Aotearoa New Zealand. It’s quiet here. The birds are loud. The stars are clear. You’ll be staying in one of our simple spaces: 100% linen, outdoor bath, hammock - designed for stillness and comfort.
-
This is not a retreat you have to earn. You don't need to be in crisis or at a crossroads.
Some guests come with a big question. Some come to sleep. Some come because their body has told them to.
Parents who haven't had an hour to themselves in years. People whose work never stops. People who look after everyone except themselves.
If that's you then this is for you.
-
You’ll be held in your own secluded accommodation, surrounded by forest, birdsong, and stillness. Each retreat space is designed for deep rest and solitude—with safety, comfort, and care at the heart of it. Many women tell us they feel safe here in a way they haven’t felt in years.
-
If you’d like, we can offer a gentle structure to support your days—walks, rest times, simple rituals. Or you can simply follow your own rhythm. There’s no right way to retreat.
-
Your scaffold is a kind of inner map—crafted from your reflections. It can begin to support you even before you arrive, and remain a companion after you leave. It holds the essence of what matters most to you, offering presence, clarity, and quiet guidance throughout your retreat journey and beyond.

Begin Here: A Conversation with Yourself
Before you book, we invite you to pause.
To feel. To notice.
To reflect.
This short questionnaire isn’t about giving us answers—it’s about giving yourself a moment to hear what’s stirring.
You’re welcome to send it to us if you’d like. When you do, we’ll hold your words with care and use them to gently shape your retreat—so what matters most to you can be quietly honoured throughout your stay.
Or simply fill it in for yourself, as a private reflection. Either way, it’s yours.
Many guests say this is where the retreat truly begins.
After the Retreat
The return is part of the retreat.
What begins in stillness doesn’t end when you leave.
The days that follow are part of the unfolding.
This space offers gentle invitations to help you integrate what you touched here—at your own pace, in your own way.
There is no pressure. Only presence.
Journaling Invitations
Quiet threads to meet you where you are.
A few days after your retreat, we’ll send a short set of reflection prompts.
They are not tasks—they are soft openings.
Crafted to help you carry what you found into your life, gently.
Examples:
– What did I remember about myself?
– What is asking to stay soft?
– How will I honour the silence I met?
A Letter to Yourself
A moment you don’t want to forget.
Before you leave, you’re invited to write a short note to your future self.
Something simple. Something you want to remember.
We’ll send it back to you a few weeks later—just as the world begins to rush again.
A quiet anchor. A reminder of who you are, beneath the noise.
A Quiet Circle
Stay close, if it feels right.
If you’d like to stay connected, we offer occasional seasonal reflections.
Not a newsletter—more like a pulse.
A way to return, if that feels nourishing.
You can join after your retreat. Only if it calls.
“I had the most beautiful solo retreat staying in the tree house. The house was beautifully appointed, the linen luxurious, the outdoor bath was a balm - watching the wind in the trees in the rain. I finished 4 books, journalled, napped and didn’t talk to anyone for 68 hours - it was bliss. I highly recommend Joanna and Nigel and their beautiful property. Whether you want connection time with your partner or yourself or nature. You can’t go wrong.”
