'Drink the wild Air'
Wild Forest Hideaway is a haven of peace and serenity in a stunningly secluded slice of the Kauri Coast. This is the kind of natural decompression your mind, body and soul will thank you for.
It’s off the beaten track - where all worthwhile discoveries are made, with all manner of unique and magical experiences nearby.

Wild Forest offers a stay that respects all forms of life, where happiness, well being, flow and meaningfulness go hand in hand.

The space

The 110 year old Historic Kauri Bushman's Cottage is self-contained and attached to the main house. It’s located next to a beautiful stream and surrounded by native forest.
It's a relaxing and comfortable space thoughtfully put together with 100% linen bedding / curtains / and velvet cushions. It’s perfect for a romantic getaway for two, also wonderful for solo travellers. It features a large private and covered outdoor bbq area with a Weber BBQ, daybed and outdoor bath.
3km from Kiwi Sanctury where guests frequently see kiwi in the wild.

Can be booked in conjunction with any of our 6 retreats.

We have three other retreats on Wild Forest Estate. If you would like to explore the property please ask us first in order to respect the privacy of the other guests (some of them may still be in the outdoor bath).

We are proudly an inclusive stay and all guests of any background or community are welcome here into a safe space.

Other things to note

We are 40 min from the nearest supermarket, the Dargaville Countdown and we encourage you to stock up well with supplies before you arrive.

The last few km of your journey is gravel road.

We live in the other end of the building. The Cottage is self contained with its own private outdoor BBQ area and garden.

We have a small shop 'Wild Supplies' in the main house. It has little treasures we love and a few essential food supplies such as pasta, pasta sauce, crackers. Open on request.

Because our philosophy is centred around permaculture and rewilding, we ask that you take your non-compostable rubbish with you (otherwise it is transported to Dargaville where it is transferred and taken to Whangarei to be placed in a land fill - not cool).

We are in the process of ‘Rewilding’ the property, leaving nature to repair itself and find its own balance with as little human intervention as possible.

If this is something that interests you I can recommend the documentary ‘Fools and Dreamers’ on Vimeo by Happen Films about a 30yr long NZ rewilding project by botanist Hugh Wilson.
